Treatment modalities of Oriental Medicine

The below methods are considered as part of the Oriental medicine treatment:

1. Chinese Herbal medicine (中藥)
2. Acupuncture (針灸)- Moxibustion, Cupping(拔罐),  Gua Sha(刮痧)
3. Tui Na (推拿) - TuiNa healing massage therapy
4. Qi Gong (氣功) and related breathing and meditation exercise
5. Chinese food therapy (食療)
6. Physical ChiGong (氣功) exercises such as Tai Ji Chuan (太極拳), Standing Meditation (站樁功）, Yoga, Brocade BaDuanJin exercises (八段錦) and even perhaps other Chinese martial arts
7. Die-da or Tieh Ta (跌打) as practiced usually by martial artists who usually know just parts of Chinese medicine as it applies to the therapy of wounds and trauma.
8. Some Chinese Medicine doctors may also utilize esoteric methods that incorporate/reflect personal beliefs or specializations such as FengShui (風水) or astrology (八字)

Auriculotherapy (耳燭療法) is considered as a style of acupuncture and moxibustion (often with electro-stimulation) with ear as the macrocosm.   Tieh Ta (跌打) are practitioners who specialize in healing trauma injury such as bone fractures, sprains, and bruises. Some of these specialists may also use or recommend other disciplines of Chinese medical therapies (or Western medicine in modern times) if serious injury is involved. Such practice of bone-setting (整骨)is not common in the West. 

Electro-acupuncture was developed in China & introduced as an extension to hand manipulation of acupuncture needles in 1934.  It involves application of a pulsating electrical current to acupuncture needles as a means of stimulating the acupoints.  Today, other means of stimulation to acupuncture points has expanded to gross category of "vibrational enery treatment"  with micorcurrent/millicurrent, color light and laser.

Blood-letting is an ancient therapy that was an essential part of traditional acupuncture practice described in the original texts and which persists today, particularly for treatment of emergency cases, such as loss of consciousness, high fever, and swellings. Most of the blood-letting therapy relies on treating peripheral points of the fingers and toes. Its purpose is to alleviate excess conditions, particularly heat syndromes and fluid swelling, and to promote resuscitation.

• limited Tui Na (see notes below wrt occupational code)
• some food therapy counseling
• heat therapy 
• Electro-acupuncture using micro- & milli-current, color light therapy with Acutron

In Texas state, the L.Ac.s are restricted by the occupational code from performing manipulation that is akin to adjustment done by chiropractors
